Volunteering with Travel to Palestine in Hebron

By: Rachel

My experience at Travel to Palestine was great. The people of Palestine welcomed me with warmth and kindness. We were given many opportunities to connect with people and community agencies. The center offers quality Arabic classes with experienced teachers, well educated worth my time. My Arabic teacher Lana put in a lot of time and effort to help give me a solid foundation for the language. Through my time with the center I was able to meet like minded people from all over the world allowing me to make international connections and friends for life.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?

Visiting Umm Al-Khair and spending time with the Bedouin people and experiencing their way of life.

Pros

  • Hospitality at the Center
  • First hand experience of apartheid rather than just reading about it
  • Meeting like-minded people from all over the world

Cons

  • Electricity outages
  • Checkpoints can be annoying – always carry your ID!
  • Occupation
